Chrysler pulled off not one, but two Super Bowl surprises this year with separate 2-minute ads, starring Oprah Winfrey embracing the military in a commercial for Jeep as well as Paul Harvey's ode to farmers called "So God Made a Farmer," in a commercial for Ram pickups.

"You've been needed. You've been cried for. Prayed for," Winfrey said in the Jeep commercial that aired near the end of the halftime show. "We are a nation that is home again."

John McCandless, a retired Navy captain and former spokesman for Toyota, said he was thrilled to see a tribute to the U.S. military.

"It was very, very moving," said McCandless, who is vice president of the Freedom Center, a military lounge at Detroit Metro Airport for traveling military members and veterans.
