Many of the world's largest automakers are showing off new in-vehicle technologies at the annual consumer electronic show here, as drivers demand to stay connected behind the wheel and cars get smarter to help avoid crashes.

Amid 3,000 companies showing off nearly every conceivable electronic gadget, a record number of automakers are exhibiting at the 2013 International CES or holding press events, said the Consumer Electronics Association.

In total, seven of the 10 largest manufacturers are showing technologies on the show floor including General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Group LLC, Volkswagen AG's Audi unit, Hyundai Motor Corp and its Kia unit, and Subaru of America.
