Cadillac rolled out its new ELR plug-in hybrid on Tuesday.

The reveal at the Detroit auto show demonstrated what Robert Ferguson, Cadillac's global vice president, called "a convergence of a sporty design and the latest technology," and "the best interior I've seen in a Cadillac."

Ferguson said the car shows the automaker's commitment to technology.

"I think it signals Cadillac, the brand that innovated many of today's modern technologies, is back at the cutting edge," he said. "The brand represents progressive engineering."

The ELR is nearly a carbon copy of the Converj concept car unveiled in 2009, before Chevrolet's Volt put the electric propulsion system on the street.
