The annual Eyes on Design Awards for design excellence at the Detroit auto show were presented late Tuesday as the last event of press days.

The awards, sponsored by the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, go to one concept and one production vehicle. For best production vehicle, Cadillac’s Volt-based extended range electric ELR beat out the Corvette Stingray.

The concept award ended in a tie between Ford’s macho Ford F-150 Atlas and the Nissan Resonance crossover. They beat the striking and aggressive Hyundai HCD-14 sedan, which the designer Chris Chapman said resembled “a cat with its ears pinned back.”
