Eleven Oakland County high school robotics teams have been awarded grants of $6,400 each by The Chrysler Foundation to help offset costs associated with registration fees, parts, materials and team apparel.

The Chrysler Foundation, based in Auburn Hills, awarded a total of $181,000 under its “Powers Up 2013 FIRST Robotics Season Awards” to middle and high school teams in Alabama, Arizona, Indiana, Michigan and Ontario, Canada.

Of 25 teams receiving grants, 16 are in Michigan.

Most of Oakland County’s robotic teams competed in the Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association (OCCRA) program run by Oakland Schools in the first semester.
