Trucks boosted sales at both Ford and Chrysler last month, pushing sales at both automakers higher.

Ford said pickups sales during the first three months of 2013 were the highest they've been since 2007. At Chrysler, sales of Ram trucks were up 25 percent last month.

At Ford, the booming truck sales came at the expense of small cars. Focus compact sales were down 12 percent from a huge March a year ago. Its bigger car, the new Fusion mid-sized sedan, was up for the month.

The boom in truck sales did not translate into commercial vans. The Avon Lake-built E-Series van line was off 8 percent.
