The Ford Transit van, to be built at the company’s Claycomo plant, is making its first appearance in Kansas City this week.

The commercial van is at the Greater Kansas City International Auto Show, which runs through Sunday at Bartle Hall. The van triggered a $1.1 billion investment in the Claycomo plant, where it is expected to add 1,600 jobs. The plant also makes the F-150 pickup.

The vehicle — Ford will begin selling it in the U.S. early next year — was unveiled Wednesday at the auto show in a ceremony that included Ford executives and Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon.
