General Motors Co. officially announced Tuesday that it will spend $44.5 million to build a logistics center at its Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant, following its recent tax break approval from Lansing.

The company said the new 400,000-square-foot building, which will go next to the plant, will create 200 new jobs. The center will sequence and assemble parts to help with manufacturing flexibility at Lansing Grand River, GM said. It also will save money for GM, improve quality and boost efficiency by using available land and cutting transportation costs, the Detroit automaker said.
