A perk often reserved for buyers of expensive luxury cars, General Motors recently announced it would be including free maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles (whichever comes first) with all of its 2014 Chevrolet, Buick and GMC models. Cadillac owners already receive complimentary maintenance for four years or 50,000 miles.

This is a significant salvo in the new-vehicle sales wars, particularly as Ford recently announced it would be scaling back Lincoln’s complimentary maintenance program from four years down to two. Only a relative handful of automakers otherwise offer gratis service for limited periods, including BMW, Jaguar, Volvo and Volkswagen.
