Workers at a Detroit-area GM plant celebrated building their 2 millionth 6-speed transmission Thursday.

The Warren Transmission Operations site opened in 1941 and was purchased by General Motors in 1958.

Plant workers signed the milestone gear system and will put in on display along with 4-speed transmissions celebrated in the past.

The 6-speed 6T70/75 transmissions are built for the GMC Acadia and Terrain, Chevrolet Traverse and Equinox, Chevrolet Impala and Malibu, Buick Enclave, and the Cadillac XTS.
