Flush with a new lineup of heavy-duty pickups and a commercial van that goes on sale in July, Chrysler’s Ram brand will try to boost sales to businesses and government fleets, director Bob Hegbloom said.

In the passenger car business, marketing honchos boast about how few sales go to fleet buyers because they generally make less profit on them. By contrast, muscular pickups and larger commercial vans such as Ram’s upcoming ProMaster, are directly aimed at service businesses, construction contractors and other customers who buy more than one at a time.

Hegbloom’s mission is to have a commercial Ram dealer located within 30 miles of 90% of the U.S. Ram now has 800 dealers certified to sell commercial vehicles, up from 425 eighteen months ago. The company is close to reaching that goal, he said.
