Demand for pickups fueled a 3.7 percent rise in February vehicle sales, a continued sign of an improving U.S. housing market and consumer confidence despite some economic worries.

Domestic and foreign automakers sold 1.19 million cars and light trucks in February, compared to 1.15 million the same month a year ago, according to results released Friday by Autodata Corp.

It marked the 12th consecutive month of sales topping 1 million. Light-duty truck sales rose 7.8 percent, while car sales rose just 0.1 percent.

The seasonally adjusted annualized selling rate in the U.S. was 15.38 million units, up from 14.5 million units a year ago. The momentum is expected to carry into March, analysts say.
