Jeep, the American sport-utility-vehicle brand owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles F.MI +4.18%  NV, will unveil this week a first: a subcompact model made in Italy.

The new Jeep, called the Renegade, will be shown for the first time on Tuesday at the Geneva International Motor Show, and is the latest example of Fiat Chrysler Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne's effort to stretch the Jeep brand's envelope beyond off-road adventurers and affluent buyers of its large Grand Cherokee model.

The Renegade will be built at Fiat's production plant in Melfi, Italy, alongside a Fiat-brand small SUV called the 500X, a larger derivative of the auto maker's Fiat 500 city car.
