    The American Automotive Policy Council, a trade group representing the Big Three automakers, is pushing back hard against Japan's new place at the negotiating table for one of the most comprehensive free-trade deals in years.

    Initially conceived as an 11-country bloc when it was announced in Nov. 2011, the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement aims to create a free-trade group with countries such as Vietnam, New Zealand and Malaysia. In July, during the 18th round of negotiations, Japan joined the talks, and the countries involved ambitiously hope to wrap up the discussions in October.

    DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 9, 2013 – About 10,000 members of the Ford Volunteer Corps are joining together to tackle more than 200 projects on six continents during the eighth annual Ford Global Week of Caring.

    The Ford Volunteer Corps is out in force from China to Australia and from Europe to the Americas in mid-September. Ford Global Week of Caring is the highlight of a year-round global campaign to flex the volunteer muscle of Ford employees, retirees and dealers.

    DETROIT – The 2014 Chevrolet Sonic is available with even more advanced-safety features, including a rear-vision camera, Forward Collision Alert, and Lane Departure Warning.

    When activated, Forward Collision Alert warns drivers if they are approaching a vehicle too quickly. Lane Departure Warning gives an alert when the vehicle veers from a marked roadway lane. The rear-vision camera, enabled by the Chevrolet MyLink’s 7-inch digital touch-screen, helps give drivers a clearer view of stationary objects behind the vehicle.

    DETROIT – The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and High Country and the GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali 1500, available this fall, with a 6.2L V-8 produces an SAE-certified 420 horsepower (at 5600 rpm) and 460 lb-ft of torque (at 4100 rpm), the most power of any pickup engine and torque of any light duty pickup truck engine.

  • Flint-area General Motors employees prepped for full slate of community volunteerism with teamGM Cares Week

    FLINT, MI – General Motors employees across Genesee County will step away from assembly lines and offices and into various neighborhoods, cleaning up blight and garbage, and trimming down overgrown weeds in and around Flint.

    Dozens of GM workers will participate in the company’s second annual teamGM Cares Week activities, including building a Peace Park and sprucing up local neighborhoods.

    The employees will work throughout the week of Sept. 9 at the Flint-based Catholic Charities office to build a Peace Park at the organization’s Center of Hope facility located at 901 Chippewa St.

  • Ford boosting production of smallest EcoBoost engine

    DEARBORN, MI- Ford Motor Co. is boosting production of its smallest EcoBoost engine, which will be offered domestically later this year.

    The Dearborn-based automaker Thursday announced it is doubling the output of the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine to more than 1,000 engines a day at its engine plant in Cologne, Germany. This will increase projected production capacity this year to 165,000 engines from 100,000 engines, and to 200,000 engines in 2014.
