• U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Edition Ford Mustang Celebrates Aviation Team's 60th Anniversary, Supports Young Eagles

    DEARBORN, Mich., July 1, 2013 – The engineering and design teams at Ford Motor Company have produced a unique U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Edition 2014 Ford Mustang GT. This car will be donated by Ford to be sold at the Gathering of Eagles charity event on Thursday, Aug. 1 during the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture Oshkosh 2013 – the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration.

    All proceeds from the car donation and sale will benefit the EAA Young Eagles program, which has provided free introductory flights to more than 1.6 million young people since 1992, helping inspire and motivate the next generation of leaders, aviators and innovators.

  • Corvettes and owners gather to celebrate 60 years

    Detroit —Larry Courtney is known as the go-to guy for Corvettes.

    Courtney, a longtime enthusiast and Corvette club member, said he and his wife, Verna, called on more than 200 Corvette owners in Michigan and Ohio to gather Sunday in a lot near Atwater and St. Antoine to commemorate the car’s 60th anniversary.

     

  • Chrysler adds diesel engine to light-duty Ram

    Chelsea — Chrysler Group LLC announced Friday that it will begin offering a diesel engine in its Ram 1500 light-duty pickup for the 2014 model year.

    That will make Ram the first truck brand to offer a small-displacement diesel in a half-ton truck.

    DETROIT – The creative use of metal finishes and styling cues in luxury watches helped inspire the chrome accents in the award-winning interior of the 2013 Cadillac XTS luxury sedan.

    XTS designers, who often look to fashion and other industries for trends in consumer preferences, applied two different chrome finishes to the interior. Satin-finished chrome accents adorn larger elements in the car, including along the door sills and the instrument panel. They create a warmer, more inviting interior and contrast with other finishes such as wood and leather.

  • Thermal Imaging Technology Used to Hunt Criminals Helps Ford Detect Air Leaks, Design Quieter Vehicles

    DEARBORN, Mich., June 28, 2013 – Ford engineers are pioneering thermal imaging technology – similar to what law enforcement agents use to track down criminals – to find and eliminate air leaks in vehicle cabins. The result is less wind noise and a quieter ride, which is key to customer satisfaction with vehicle quality.

    Thermal imaging is the use of cameras to photograph heat in the environment. Thermal imaging cameras capture the radiation present that appears as an infrared image. In Ford tests, air leaks show up as hot spots when heated air escapes a vehicle.

  • GM already tops $1.5 billion investment plan for 2013

    DETROIT- General Motors Co. has already exceeded its goal of announcing more than $1.5 billion in new investments this year for production facilities in North America.

    Following two Wednesday announcements totaling $344 million, the Detroit-based automaker’s announced investments total about $1.82 billion with six months to go in 2013.

  • 25 GM Plants Across U.S. Commit to Reduce Energy Costs

    DETROIT – General Motors is participating in a U.S. Department of Energy program to reduce energy costs, per unit of production, at 25 of its U.S. facilities. The result is an anticipated 25-percent or greater combined reduction in energy use at the plants by 2018.

    The Better Buildings, Better Plants program is a national initiative in which the DOE works with industry partners to promote greater energy efficiency in the U.S. industrial sector.
