• Detroit automakers have right to object to Japan's currency manipulation

    Last week, on the same day Japan finally jostled its way into the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks with the U.S. and 10 other nations, petitions signed by more than 80,000 Ford, Chrysler and General Motors workers were sent to U.S. Congress members, urging that Japan be forced to stop rigging its currency to subsidize exports and keep out imports.

     

  • Ford F-150 to Offer Ability to Run On Compressed Natural Gas; Sales of Ford CNG-Prepped Vehicles Continue Growth

    Ford, America’s truck leader, will offer the 2014 F-150 with the ability to run on compressed natural gas, making Ford the only manufacturer with an available CNG/LPG-capable half-ton pickup.

    The 2014 Ford F-150 with 3.7-liter V6 engine will be available this fall with a factory-installed, gaseous-fuel prep package that includes hardened valves, valve seats, pistons and rings so it can operate on either natural gas or gasoline through separate fuel systems.

  • Ford to Offer Natural Gas Fuel Systems for F-150 Pickups

    Ford Motor Co., the second-largest U.S. automaker, plans to begin offering compressed natural gas fuel systems for its F-150 pickups to meet growing demand from business fleets and attract retail buyers.
    Fuel packages similar to what Ford has offered on large commercial vehicles since 2009 will be available starting this year with the 2014 F-150, said Kevin Koswick, head of its fleet operations. The F-150 will be the only half-ton pickup capable of running on compressed natural gas, or CNG, the company said in a statement.

  • GM Foundation Donates $200,000 to Safe Kids Worldwide

    DETROIT – As summer temperatures continue to climb, so does the risk of child injuries and deaths due to heatstroke. To help raise awareness of this issue, the General Motors Foundation is providing $200,000 to Safe Kids Worldwide to support the organization’s Never Leave Your Child Alone in a Car campaign.

    Since 1998, an average of 37 children per year have lost their lives due to heatstroke, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Even on a 75-degree day, the interior of a vehicle can reach more than 100 degrees in approximately 20 minutes. On an 80 degree day the interior of a vehicle can reach 100 degrees or more in just 10 minutes.

  • Ram truck sales power Chrysler Group's second quarter profit

    Matching a trend set last week by its domestic rivals, Chrysler Group reported healthy second quarter earnings Tuesday, helped by the strong U.S. auto market and a boom in profitable truck sales.

    The Auburn Hills, Mich., automaker said it posted second quarter net income of $507 million, a 16% gain from $436 million in the same quarter a year earlier. The second quarter was Chrysler’s eighth consecutive quarter of positive net income.
